The future of today's youth

The “Unscripted” Curriculum: What Your “Portfolio of Self” Looks Like Today?

Today, with omnipresent machine intelligence, frictionless instant gratification, and relentlessly piling information in education, the preparation of young adults has become what might as well be called an oxymoron. Never before in human history has information been so universally accessible. And never before have individuals been more precariously prepared to understand what actually to do with it all.

For decades, we got pretty good at transferring facts, formulas, and neatly tied bows to our kids.

But we largely did ignore anything approximating the conscious cultivation of agency. For today’s young adult, “learning” itself isn’t about what you memorise. Instead, it’s about what you can navigate through. Progress isn’t “walk in the same path until the end”; it is “lay your own brick while you’re in mid-stride.”

And that may be even true if the path is forever changing underneath your feet.

So, if you are in school today, a recently minted graduate, or you’re simply tiptoeing up to the doorstep of Adulthood™, this is your work.

1. Shift Your Focus from “Career” to “Competency.” Historically, the advice was clear: choose a major and then find your career. That paradigm is outdated; your degree of choice and major may already provide the skills to get a job that quickly becomes obsolete or even simply diminishes relevance over time.

Rather, start thinking about it by asking yourself: What would it look like to carry a concept from inception to reality?”; ”Can I explain a complex idea in simple, understandable terms?”;” Can I sift through information gathered from a diverse range of fields and apply it to a never-before-encountered problem?;” Can I effectively maintain composure, despite emotional challenges” The abilities listed here are termed “durable skills” in development, and represent the nurturing soil in which the plants (specialised knowledge) grow. Instead of asking ””” What do I want to BE???”-the very notion of that quest potentially stymies an person-ask: ” What kind of problems do I want to tackle? The inquiry seems almost simple but contains a sense of purpose.

2. Integrate “The Friction of Failure”.

The social media highlight reel does give an impression of never-ending triumph as deceptive. It gives you the medal and not the struggle required. It presents the IPO of the startup without including the myriad of times money seemed to be evaporating, and it appears no way out…. Productive failure requires the courage of your convictions, and it does require experimentation.

Let me ask you: Does submission of the essay even intimidate you? Would building an app that risks failure pose a challenge?

” ”Does starting that conversation that one could create uncomfortable? If you take the time to learn the ‘WHY’ behind every single mistake (failure), neural pathways will be created for resilience and strength. The people that usually succeed are those that don’t take a fall but rather those who get up quicker because they have had an increase in information the last time that took a plunge.

3.Develop “Deep Work” in a Shallow Environment… and Use It as a Leverage Tool. Your capacity to attend is likely your biggest differentiator, and when taken to extreme ends, that may make one person an actual outlier and superpower in the current times because attention isn’t given to any “thing”, but to one thing for long durations of time. Protect your attention with an ever-increasing fervour of conviction-your brain will get “good” at this at an astonishing pace, even under less-than-optimal circumstances.

Read that book without checking messages and resist any impulse to simply quickly digest short, thin summaries that only slightly graze topics -it’s fine and may even allow for better information digestion without having to rush and fill your mind with clutter;… “Boredom can be highly beneficial; it lets your subconscious process your knowledge and ideas and generate creative breakthroughs.”–Scott Hinds. Let your mind “disengage” as if no screens are within your sight.

Quality work in turn provides an opportunity-opportunity for respect, for trust. If you can deliver work that is 10 per cent above average-and visibly so– then you will very likely also fall in the top one per cent, because on average work is about distractedness.”…(repeated content- 2 and 3)

4. We “fall” into community more than climb into it. “People tend to seek out and form bonds with people that live in their close physical vicinity – they “fall” into community much more often than climb to form a group…’. ‘We’fall into community more then climbs into it…”(https://greatergood.

- Host your projects at GitHub, or on your own website - Share your learnings on LinkedIn, or for that matter a podcast - This simultaneously achieves two things: First, it makes you articulate your thinking-teaching, honestly, is the highest form of knowledge acquisition. And, second, you create a digital footprint, your signature that’s actually perceivable. Don’t just wait to be noticed; make it possible to be discovered.

5.The unplugged “network”: We love our followers; we forget about our neighbours.

Development is not just hierarchical (it is not just up the ladder) but also lateral (building the human fabric gently and progressively). Surround yourself with the challenging, not the complacent. Find someone who has lived the life you want, and not the life that gets the paycheck you want. Join a group in which you can be practically the most clueless for the better part of the time.

Practice real listening and asking questions starting with-and this is an important distinction-’ Why’ and ’How.’

And remember that your network is not a Rolodex full of names; it is an assortment of vantage points; and the diversity across age, race, religion, ideology, et cetera sharpens the focus of your worldview.

6.Defining “yield.”

It’s simply the highest point for now that your “yield”-your development, as it were-cannot solely be your GPA or your earnings; you will likely fall prey to what is known as the arrival fallacy, and that it’s only after you obtain that objective that you will be happy-and you won’t be.

So find your own personal yield: -- -IntellectualYield: are you ever more curious when it gets challenging? -Emotional Yield: do you treat others kindly, regardless of how much strain comes your way? -- -Physical Yield: is your body serving its part with a view to attaining mission and nothing else; or -Spiritual and Philosophical Yield: do you know and stand for something true in your bones? Character is the measure of what you’re willing to do if no person will ever understand you do. You would like a sturdy principle of integrity to do something truly sustainable.

Your Unfinished Manuscript: This era will be unable to lead us into the future-quite simply, this is the era which sets us up for the future.

It is just an imperfect and chaotic sector, and also to meet these demanding situations we've been invited to continue and develop, and do not be scared to stumble forward; although, let's be transparent: this is simply going to be awkward all through the years, and this is really going to be lonely sometimes, so do not be afraid to do this. There is an ongoing saga that no other step beyond graduation will resolve. Learn and understand everything possible thoroughly; write it down; be sure to stumble significantly and not let any fall determine whether you’ll begin anew or quit for good. Build your inside infrastructure robust sufficient that you aren’t easily dismantled by external forces like global Financial systems, technological upheaval, changes in local weather patterns, or societal rebellions; our whole nation is awaiting leaders who should build it a stronger region; this you’ll find when you lead and serve it with your knowledge, experience, and ethics
